SSDI Benefits Update: Thousands to Get Up to $4,018 on March 19

The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirms that Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments will be issued on March 19, 2025 for eligible beneficiaries.

If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of any month, you’re in line for this payment.

Knowing SSDI Better

SSDI is a federal program funded by FICA taxes, designed to support individuals who:

  • Have severe disabilities preventing them from working for at least 12 months, or
  • Have a terminal illness

SSDI is based on your work history and accumulated work credits—not your current financial need.

SSDI Benefit Amounts for 2025

  • Average monthly benefit: $1,580
  • Maximum monthly benefit: $4,018 (for those with high earnings history)
  • Typical payment range: $900 to $1,600
  • Family average benefit (if you have eligible dependents): Up to $2,800
  • SSI maximum (for comparison): $967 for singles, $1,450 for couples

SSDI Work Credit Requirements (2025)

  • Under 24: 6 credits in the past 3 years
  • 24–30: Credits equal to half the time since age 21
  • 30 and older: 20 credits in the past 10 years
  • Over 62: 40 credits, with 20 earned in the last decade

One credit = $1,810 in 2025 earnings; max 4 credits/year

Application and Medicare Coverage

  • Apply at SSA.gov, by phone (1-800-772-1213), or at your local SSA office
  • Approval may take months and requires detailed medical records
  • 5-month waiting period for payments (unless ALS, which has no waiting)
  • After 24 months on SSDI, you qualify for Medicare
