SSI Benefit Advance: Two Payments Set for May 2025 as June 1 Falls on a Sunday

In May 2025, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive two payments due to a scheduling adjustment by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

This is not an additional benefit but a shift in the payment schedule because June 1 falls on a Sunday.

Why Two Payments in May?

SSI benefits are typically issued on the first of each month.

However, when that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the SSA advances the payment to the last business day of the previous month.

In this case, the June payment will be made on Friday, May 30, resulting in two payments in May:

  • May 1: Regular SSI payment for May

  • May 30: Early payment for June

It's important to note that there will be no SSI payment issued in June since that month's payment is being made in advance.

Eligibility for Both Payments

To receive both payments in May, beneficiaries must:

  • Be actively receiving SSI in both May and June 2025

  • Meet standard eligibility requirements, including:

    • Very low or no income

    • Resource limits of $2,000 for individuals or $3,000 for couples

    • U.S. citizenship or qualifying immigration status

    • Compliance with periodic SSA reviews and no benefit suspensions

If your benefits are current and uninterrupted, both payments will be sent automatically—no additional action is required.

SSI Payment Amounts for 2025

As of 2025, the maximum monthly SSI payment is:

  • $967 for individuals

  • $1,450 for eligible couples

These amounts include the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA).

Your actual benefit may vary depending on other income or household support.
